We are just abusive dreamers” is not only a tale or only an essay. It’s a fine story of justice and truth that begins with a strong action of cooperation between citizens and Institutions and that is succeeded in the demolition not only of the “Vela Verde of Scampia”, but of a stereotype.
Scampia is the icon of the political and administrative disinterest over the decades and the symbol of the Committee “Vele di Scampia”, a group of women and men who have fought since 1970s against stigma and the stereotype of the largest drug dealing square in Europe.
I have told the battle for essential rights (work, home, health, education, etc.) in Scampia, a district in Naples built between 1962 and 1975 according to an architecture not designed for a suburb – at the time – with an agricultural vocation and grafted onto a perimeter unsupported by any service.
Designed to rebuild the so-called “economy of the narrow alley”, following the earthquake of 1980 families have begun to occupy them illegally, organizing a sort of diaspora from the historic Centre of Naples. A solid ground for building identities solely on misery and destitution. I’ve wanted to preserve the memory through a tale because memory itself is already a struggle.
“We are just abusive dreamers” is the story of a social conflict that becomes positive through the values of cooperation and above all I have told how the relationship between citizen and Institution changes whether interests are not opposed.
